Testimonials

Claudette: Joey and Kate are both wonderful teachers and my girls love taking Capoeira from them. I can't keep them away.

Anon: Capoeira Besouro is a great class that helped me learn the arts of Capoeira with ease. Joey is an awesome teacher who makes it easy to learn new kicks and tricks. I am twelve years old and have been taking this class for nearly a year now and I really love it.

Diego: I have been training Capoeira with Joey for about a year now. I came to his academy with several years under my belt and I have found an opportunity to grown my game from a brand new perspective. Joey has been a great teacher due to his ability to intimately understand human movement and dynamic power transfer. As I have gotten better, Joey has been able to pinpoint areas of weakness in my game and has provided insight on how to overcome those obstacles. If you are looking for someone with a wide variety of martial arts experience and a broad vocabulary of movement, I encourage you to check Joey out.

Strength: The dynamic, stabilizing and explosive movements that define capoeira occur standing upright, with 4 points of contact on the ground, in inversions like handstands and moving through these positions! Capoeira builds the small stabalizing muscles around the knees, core and other joints as well as the larger muscle groups like glutes, quads, paraspinals, abdominals and triceps.

Culture: Capoeira's familial structure is firmly rooted in its origin cultures of Africa and Brazil.  There is no cookie cutter dojo in capoeira.  Familial lines and and social support drive relationships between capoeira schools and much cross pollination occurs.
